SEP FAQ

Q1) Why go on exchange?

Students can gain valuable international exposure when studying and living in a foreign country, which certainly adds another dimension to the BBA experience as it enriches their academic life and enhances their personal development.
Students who have gone on exchange are also highly sought after by prospective employers, especially multinational companies, as they prefer students who are geographically mobile and who have adapted successfully in a foreign environment.
Therefore, our BBA students are strongly encouraged to go on exchange while studying in NUS as it boosts their job prospects and widens their international outlook.



Q2) What are the partner universities that are covered under the exchange agreement?

BBA students can choose from a list of more than 100 partner universities in more than 30 countries for exchange program. Our exchange parner universiites are listed here.



Q3) What is the selection criteria for students who wish to go on the programme?

Selection is competitive and based on students’ academic performance and participation in the Core Curricular Activities (CCAs). More detailed information can be found here.



Q4) Are there any prerequisites that students have to satisfy before they can go overseas on exchange?

Under the current BBA curriculum, students would have to complete most of the foundation business administration modules before they can go on overseas exchange.
This is to ensure that they have a good grounding in the core subjects to ensure that they will do well while on overseas exchange. Generally speaking, the majority of students go for exchange during their second year.
Students who are doing Accounting Specialisation or Double Degree Programs will have to consult the Dean's Office on the pre-requisites and eligibility criteria.
Students must return to NUS to complete at least one semester before graduation.



Q5) When should students be applying for the programme?

There are two selection rounds per year. Students may apply for exchange in either semester 1 or 2 in the next academic year during the December-January application period. Students who missed the first round of application for exchange in semester 2 may apply in the March-April application period.





Q6) Is there any quota on the number of students that can go on exchange?

No, there is no quota. However, there are fixed spaces allocated for each university.
If demand for the university exceeds supply, priority would be given to the students who are ranked higher. In this case, students who are not successful in applying for their first choice of their partner university would be allocated their next best choice according to the list of preferred universities.



Q7) Do students have to pay additional fees if they go overseas?


The tuition fees will be waived as students would only incur their normal school fees to NUS.
However, students will be financially responsible for their personal and living expenses, amounting approximately to S$8,000 per semester, subject to the local conditions at the Partner University for the duration of the student exchange.



Q8) Will NUS arrange for any accommodation or student pass for the students?

Students would have to arrange for their own accommodation at the Partner University, as well as visa and travel arrangements.
However, assistance could be sought from the student exchange coordinator at the Partner University.



Q9) Do students transfer their grades back to NUS?

Only students' credits will be transferred back to NUS. NUS only needs to know whether students have passed or failed in their modules taken at the Partner University.



Q10) Can students go for more than one student exchange programme in the course of my BBA programme?

Students are only allowed to go once on an exchange programme for one semester. This is to ensure that there are fair opportunities for students who wish to go on exchange.



Q11) Is it possible for students to defer their exchange?


The administration does not allow students to defer their exchange. However, if you have mitigating reasons, you may withdraw from the SEP and re-apply again for the next round.
Students must write in to the Assistant Dean, stating their reasons for withdrawing from the SEP.



Q12) If students have been rejected before for the student exchange programme, are they eligible to apply again?

Yes, students may apply again. However, they would have to go through similar selection criteria.

 

 


Q13) Can students apply for any grants/loans to finance their student exchange stint overseas?


Under the University's auspices, students can apply for the SEP loan that is administered by the Registrar's Office.
Students can apply for the various Awards administered by the International Relations Office.
Students could also apply scholarship/bursary funds on their own accord at their respective Citizen Consultative Committee (CCC) for financial aid.
