Polytechnic Diplomas from Singapore

Polytechnic students from Singapore, regardless of nationality, who hold a Diploma from any area are highly encouraged and recommended to have a strong mathematics preparation similar to the requirement for A-level students as this will serve as an essential foundation to a business education at NUS. You should also submit your Singapore-Cambridge GCE O-level results, if available. If you are a student in your final semester of study at the Polytechnic, you can apply with your results obtained from your first 5 semesters of study. You should submit your final semester results to the Office of Admissions, NUS as soon as these are available.

Please refer to: http://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/gradeprofile/sprogramme-igp.html for the latest Indicative Grade Profile and course places for both A-level and polytechnic applicants.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma

The IB Diploma is a recognised certificate for consideration by NUS for admissions. However for entry into the Business Administration and Business Administration (Accountancy) courses specifically, IB Diploma holders are expected to have read and passed at least Standard Level Mathematics. Other subjects like Business Studies might help to give students a slight head start, but are not pre-requisites for entry.

Due to the fact that the IB Diploma is a recent addition to the list of accepted certifications for entry into NUS, the University has yet to be able to publish statistical data on cut-off points on its website. However do feel free to contact the Office of Admissions at (+65) 6516 1010 for more information.

International Applicants

International students must have equivalent qualifications; in particular, those needing to present SAT must take the Subject Test Mathematics Level II, as stipulated on this link. For international students who are not presenting Singapore 'A' Level, Singapore-based Polytechnic Diplomas, or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma qualifications, submitting SAT or ACT scores, even when not required, will provide another perspective to NUS Office of Admissions. Please note that the LKY-STEP Award for polytechnic graduates prefers its applicants to have taken the SAT.

NUS' exclusive University Scholars Programme has its own admission criteria.

Qualifying English Test (QET)

Although there is no English language requirement for admissions (excluding international students), the Qualifying English Test must be taken by all first-year international students and all Polytechnic graduates, as well as by all first-year Singaporean 'A' Level students who have scored below B4 for the General Paper. Depending on their Test performances, students may be required to take up to three extra English language modules that will not earn modular credits for the BBA degree.

Discretionary Admissions

Up to 10% of vacancies will be set aside to consider exceptional candidates for admission into NUS. For such candidates, other factors besides academic results will be taken into consideration. Applicants should provide details in the "Discretionary Admissions" section on the online application form. Some examples of exceptional achievements that the University may take into consideration are:

  • Medalist in any of the International Olympiads (Biology, Chemistry, Informatics, Mathematics and Physics)
  • Winner at the National Science and Talent Search
  • Representative for Singapore in Arts and/or Sports events
  • Active participation in community service and volunteer programs
  • Work experience relevant to the course applied for
  • Key leadership positions in community organizations, sports and athletic clubs (outside school)
  • Entrepreneur who has started and managed a business
  • Participation in the NUS Business School Young Entrepreneurship Challenge

An interview may be required.

Scholarship applicants, Concurrent-Degree applicants, Double-Degree applicants, marginal applicants, and applicants for transfer (from within or outside NUS) may be interviewed, possibly via phone.

Up-to-date information on the admissions criteria for Singapore and international students, application-related information, and on-line Application Form can be found on the NUS Office of Admissions website at http://nus.edu.sg/oam/apply-to-nus.html

Note: Do maintain a functional email address to facilitate efficient communication. Male applicants from Singapore who will be in National Service will have to maintain this email for two years until registration with NUS (matriculation).

As admission cut-offs tend toward an upward trend, it is advisable for all applicants to indicate, where possible, that they also wish to be considered under Discretionary Admissions.
