Double Degree Program - Details

Administration of Double Degree Programmes

Our BBA is the junior edition of our MBA that has a version ranked 29th in the world. BBA's own achievements also speak for our global competitiveness. We welcome sensitive, inquisitive and articulate students to become lifelong co-owners and co-builders of our Biz collegiate community, and we involve students with their career preparation right from the outset.

Some common details concerning undergraduate Double Degree Programmes and Concurrent Degree programmes (hence collectively known as "double degree") in the School of Business are covered here. Besides concerning ad hoc double degree programmes (e.g. with Real Estate) put together by originally non-Business students, issues covered here also relate to customized programmes like those with Law, Engineering, Communications and Computing, and Concurrent programmes like the ones involving MSc(+MIM) and MPP(+MPA). NUS also maintains a general FAQ page for double degree programmes.

Please consult this link (Q12) for fees details.

Double-degree students carry a normal load (about 20 Modular Credits, or 5 modules), just like any typical NUS student, but take longer to graduate with 2 separate degrees. There should therefore not be any additional pressure on time management for students during a semester. Students in a double degree programme may opt out of the programme at any time by informing the BBA Office of their decisions.

Undergraduates from the partnering faculties may join the customized double degree programmes at the end of their first year, or put together ad hoc double degree programmes by the end of their second year. When evaluating applications, customized programmes may consider applicants' academic preparations before entering NUS, while ad hoc programmes typically do not.

Students applying to BBA+Law after their first year would need to have a Cumulative Average Point (CAP) of at least 4.0 out of 5.0. Additionally, students would need to have satisfied Law's entry requirements for A-Level students, or be on Bizad's Dean's List.

Matriculated Business students wishing to pursue double degrees (either ad hoc or customized) with other NUS departments are welcome to email or write to the School of Business Assistant Dean (Undergraduate Academic & Admin), with a copy to the BBA Senior Manager.

Business students interested in the 5-year double degree BBA(H)+Law(H) may also wish to explore the sequential 6-year combination BBA+Graduate LLB.

Superior undergraduate students from any NUS faculty or department could also consider the concurrent mini-analytic-MBA-like Master of Science in Management as an alternative "twin degree" programme. Non-Business students with time pressure could read instead the 12-module BBA-subset Major in Management, the 12-module Major in Management (Technology), or the 6-module BBA-subset Minor in Management. Engineering or Science preparation can be excellent for some areas of Management research at the graduate level.

Eligible double-degree students in the Accounting Specialisation may additionally opt to take 20 extra Modular Credits (5 modules), as Unrestricted Elective Modules (UEMs), for voluntary professional accounting qualification. With normal academic load, this option normally delays graduation by one semester (about half a year), although this may be accelerated. Thus, students going for BBA(H) with professional accounting qualification normally take 5.5 years for the 2 degrees, but may require up to 6 years for some Engineering disciplines if studied without extra academic load. For Engineering students, the combination of Industrial and Systems Engineering with the Operations and Supply Chain Management Specialisation in BBA is most likely to require the least number of modular credits. Professional accounting qualification with Law will normally take 5.5 years.

Because some University Scholars Programme (USP) requirements are often met using Breadth Modules and Unrestricted Elective Modules, and these modules are mostly used up for a Double Degree Programme (DDP), USP students in DDPs can expect to have to take extra modules, thus lengthening their candidature by one semester if they always carry only the normal academic load of 20 Modular Credits (about 5 modules) per semester.

Non-Business students who had already taken a Business Foundation module or a Business Specialisation module on a S/U basis will have to convert, where possible, the S/U grade into a letter grade after joining a double degree programme.

Double-degree students may go on overseas student exchange or NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC) with either faculty (subject to any restriction by the faculty or programme partnering Biz), but must be careful that modules taken with NUS partner universities can be mapped back to modules that can count or double-count towards either or both of their two degrees. In particular, if an exchange module is mapped back as an Unrestricted Elective Module, it will not count towards the double degree, unless there has been too many double-counted modules to achieve the minimum MCs required for a double degree in the first place.

Double degrees have no bearing on any student internship activities, unless an internship is usually taken for credits under the Unrestricted Elective Modules requirement, in which case the internship does not usually contribute to the Modular Credits requirement for the double-degree. Internships earn no modular credit in the BBA or BBA(H) program, but many Biz students had multiple internships.

For module bidding through NUS Centralized Online Registration System (CORS), double-degree students are given the same number of points as single-degree students, since all students are expected to carry the same average academic load per semester.
