Students who are in the BBA (Accountancy) programme are required to complete a mandatory minimum of 8 weeks of accounting or finance related internship. This is part of the programme requirement, prior to graduation, and will constitute 4MCs from the student's unrestricted elective module requirements.
Students can secure a suitable internship during summer holiday from May to July after year 2. Note that internship application is a competitive process, so students should not assume they can definitely secure an internship during the summer period in the planning of the sequence of modules required of completing the degree. Internships which are purely administrative in nature will not be recognized as a fulfilment of the compulsory internship requirement.
Before undertaking the internship, we require students to have completed all three of the following prerequisite modules:
For students who matriculate from AY2017/2018 onward
- ACC2702 Corporate Accounting and Reporting 1
- ACC3701 Assurance and Attestation
- ACC3703 Taxation
For students who matriculated before AY2017/2018
- ACC3601 Corporate Accounting and Reporting
- ACC3603 Assurance and Attestation
- ACC3605 Taxation
This is to ensure that students are equipped with the necessary accounting knowledge to perform well on the job.
BIZ Career Services will be working closely with the major accounting firms to source for suitable internship opportunities for our accountancy students. Publicity for these internship opportunities will be done via regular email announcements and posts on the TalentEDGE portal for application. Students will have to apply and submit their cover letter, resume and other required documents if they are keen to pursue the positions that are available.
After securing an internship, students are required to drop by BIZ Career Services Office to complete the internship agreement form prior to commencement of their attachment. The Office will also send the student's internship appraisal form to the respective firms, two weeks before the end of the internship.
At the end of the compulsory internship, students are required to submit a two-page (single-line spacing) internship report to BIZ Career Services within two weeks. This report (together with the appraisal form) will be reviewed by the school to determine if students have fulfilled the internship requirement.
